What is a
Zine?
How to make a
Zine?
Zine F.A.Q.
What is a zine, anyway?
A zine (rhymes with mean) is a DIY, self-published booklet made for the love of it, not for money. It’s a space where typos are fine, rules don’t exist, and you can talk about anything from your favorite niche hobby to radical politics. Watch the video for more.
Where can I find these zines?
You won't find them at a big bookstore. Check out local independent shops, "distros" (tiny online shops run by fans), or zine fests. Word of mouth and online communities like the Barnard Zine Archive are great starting points.
How do I get my hands on a zine?
Message the creator directly! Most zinesters sell their work for a few bucks to cover printing and stamps—they usually take PayPal or "concealed cash" in the mail. If you make your own, trading is the ultimate way to grow your collection for free.
Why should I bother making one?
Because seeing your thoughts in physical print is a total rush. It’s a way to find your "people," get weird mail, and vent about things that big magazines would never publish. Plus, it’s a great excuse to finally use all those Sharpies.
